Wedding FAQ’s

I really like to meet a couple before we book a wedding. I think the choice of wedding photographer is very personal, and should absolutely reflect your style and vision for the way your day is captured. If I don’t think I’m a good fit for you, I will be happy to recommend another photographer. After all, your satisfaction is the mainstay of my business. With that in mind, here are some ways to know if I might be a good fit for you:

How long have you been photographing weddings?

2015 will be my fourth year photographing weddings. I have been photographing families and commercially much longer than that, but wanted to be sure I was ready before branching out into weddings as well. I spent my first year as a second shooter for three different photographers, learning the rhythm and routines of a wedding, and well as the ways different photographers approach portraits and key moments. This helped enormously when I went out on my own.

Why did you begin to photograph weddings?

Honestly, a friend asked me to second shoot a wedding with her. I was initially reluctant, because I knew what an awesome responsibility it was, but she assured me I could do it. Well, did I get a surprise! Not only did I love every minute, I found that my way of photographing works very well at a wedding, and I loved the images I captured. I was hooked!

What is your style?

Well, I look at that question in two ways. One is, what is your shooting style, and the other is, what is your image style. So let me answer both.

My shooting style is photo journalistic, and as unobtrusive as possible. I like to be the ‘fly on the wall’, letting moments unfold and watching for authentic interactions between people. I prefer to use a long lens and observe, than be in the faces of the people I’m photographing. That said, I have a lot of experience now with when things will happen, so I can anticipate and be in the right moment at the right time, and I’m not afraid to be where I need to be, or to corral people into a cohesive group portrait. I will absolutely give directions when that will get the best outcome.

My image style is bright, warm and rustic. Again, I will choose an authentic portrait over a stylized glamor shot. This is not what everybody wants, which is why I like to spell it out. Please see my slideshow here if you haven’t already for examples.

Do you have any professional credentials?

I graduated from the University of Akron with my BFA/Photography in Fall 2014. That means I spent 5 years learning film, darkroom techniques, editing programs, studio lighting and studying fine art photography. Basically, every aspect. And I do belong to the American Society of Media Photographers as well.

What is included in our price? Do you use a second shooter with every wedding? What about albums?

Each of my collections include a certain number of hours and a related number of fully edited, high resolution images with full printing rights on your choice of disc or thumb drive. See those here. I also post all your images in an online gallery for sharing with friends and family, and create an app of some of your favorites which you can load onto your phone.

I always recommend a second shooter, unless a wedding is very small. However, I’ve found that couples prefer to ‘customize’ their wedding to their needs, and as such include the option for a second shooter at a fixed price.

I work with 2-3 different printing companies to create an album which meets your vision, whether it’s leather or linen, or something in between. Album prices start at $500, use images chosen by you from your gallery, and are designed in house by me. I have examples I will happily share.

What about engagement sessions?

I love to do an engagement session with a couple I’ve booked for a wedding. It helps me get to know them before the whirlwind of the big day. I also tell couples that their engagement sessions are so relaxed and intimate, whether I’m photographing their wedding or not, they will never regret doing that session together.

What kind of weddings do you have experience with?

Well, lets see. I’ve photographed outdoor weddings (beach, park and garden), full Catholic mass church weddings, same sex commitment ceremonies, and small, intimate gatherings. I’m sure there’s a style I haven’t done yet, but I can’t think what that might be!

We like what we’ve read so far! How do we contact you to meet and talk with you further, see examples of full weddings you’ve photographed, and see album samples?
